ROMERO POLO AND VALORIZA BEGIN WASTE TREATMENT PLANT IN LLEIDA

The Romero Polo and Valoriza joint venture has begun the works on the municipal waste treatment plant in the Segrià region of Lleida. The project has a budget of 18.6 million euros and it is expected to be completed by next year.

Regional Minister for Territory and Sustainability, Damià Calvet, has laid the foundation stone of the plant that will take over mechanical-biological selection and waste treatment at the landfill site located in Montoliu.

The facilities under construction will have the most advanced technology in order to treat over 60,000 tons of solid urban waste and 15,000 tons of organic matter. It is estimated that this activity will prevent the emission of more than 25,700 tons of CO2, the same amount produced by almost 30,000 vehicles travelling 10,000 kilometres during one year.

Altogether, Romero Polo and Valoriza are in charge of two main phases: the construction of the plant, along with the extension of the controlled waste deposit, and the management of the facilities for eight years, with the possibility of extending services.
