REUS NET LAUNCHES A PILOT TEST WITH INTELLIGENT CONTAINERS

Reus Net, belonging to Romero Polo group, has started a pilot test during this April, together with Reus City Council, to choose the new system of intelligent containers that aims to increase the rate of selective collection in the city. This initiative also aims to reduce the generation of non-recyclable waste and its incineration, in addition to raising awareness of waste generation and increasing environmental citizen awareness, key elements in the circular economy.

The test consists of the implementation of an innovative system for opening the containers that requires prior identification of the user, either by means of a personalized card or an app for mobile devices. At the moment, this technology is only available in the waste (gray) and organic (brown) containers in four of the city’s neighborhoods: Mas Carpa, Xalets Quintana, Sant Joan and Blancafort. In each of the neighborhoods a different technological locking system is being tested. Reus City Council and Reus Net will be in charge of monitoring the results of this first phase.

To facilitate the implementation of this new model of containers, during the first 15 days there will be staff on the street to help neighbors and to solve any incident or doubt that may arise. Also, in order to avoid any uncivic act that may occur, the service of container revision will be reinforced.
