ROMERO POLO PROMOTES AN INNOVATION PROJECT FOR THE PRODUCTION OF ASPHALT WITH THE USE OF SLURRY

Romero Polo has developed an innovation project to manufacture environmentally friendly asphalt binders using slurry, in line with its desire to reduce the environmental impact of asphalt mixtures.

The aim of this initiative, which could become a reality in the next few years, is to reduce the consumption of petroleum-based asphalt binders and replace them, totally or partially, with binders made from recycled materials, co-products or waste. It would also mean a transition towards a model based on the consumption of residues from the livestock sector, allowing for a qualitative industrial and economic leap in traditionally agricultural and livestock farming areas.

The project has been partially funded by the Centro de Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial (CDTI), with the participation as subcontractors of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV), the Universitat Politènica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech (UPC) and the Universitat de Vic (UVIC).
